Cardinal League

I and Prakash found new trails to go for a walk in our area. There were nice tennis courts too. Prakash was all excited. I was excited too.. not about tennis, but about the trees surrounding the courts and the birds residing on them. There were flocks of Northern Cardinals. The royal females perching elegantly on the tree branches while the setting sun added brightness to their brown plumage. I usually see a lot of them flocking together. The male cardinals somehow seem to be busier than the females and are bright red in colour. This was not the first sight I have had of the cardinals. My first sight of this bird was in Marsh creek state park while I was walking hand in hand with Prakash. We loved the bird at first sight and am still in love with them. I have a family of these cardinals at my bird feed everyday day. I am glad they are my daily visitors. The name cardinal was given to these birds after the cardinals of the catholic church who wear red robes and a red cap.

A red cardinal and his lady
shine together on my porch,
I wonder if it were the sun rise
that adorned this colour to the master,
or if it were the morning mist
that adorned the colour to the lady....
